The sources agree on the shape: a freelancer costs a few thousand dollars, an agency starts where freelancers stop, and the same brief can be quoted at very different prices. Digital Applied notes that one brief can yield a $6,000 freelancer quote and a $90,000 agency quote without either party being unreasonable.

What moves the price.

  • The number of pages. BRIX Templates doubles its estimate from a 1 to 10 page site to an 11 to 40 page one.
  • Template or custom design. Digital Applied puts a template-led build at $3,000 to $8,000 and a custom small-business site at $8,000 to $15,000.
  • Who builds it. In BRIX's figures a small studio costs about twice a freelancer for the same site, and a mid-level agency about four times.
  • What the site has to do. Booking, payments, accounts and integrations are priced as product work, not as pages.
